About Us
Black Nonbelievers (BN) is a 501 c3 non-profitorganization. Headquartered in the Atlanta area, we are dedicated to providinga caring, friendly, and informative environment. We connect with other Blacks(and allies) who are living free of religion and might otherwise be shunned byfamily and friends. Instead of accepting dogma, we determine truth and moralitythrough reason and evidence.
The mission of Black Nonbelievers is to:
• Provide secular fellowship.
• Nurture and support nonbelievers in"coming out" (ie, open identification).
• Promote atheist pride.
• Organize members for charitable causes.
Why Black Nonbelievers?
According Pew Research, Blacks/African Americans stillmake up one of the highest percentage of the religiously affiliated in theUnited States. Because of the role that the church plays in the Black community,it can be extremely challenging to openly identify as an atheist ornonbeliever, which creates a strong sense of isolation for many.
Black Nonbelievers provides support for and increasesawareness of the growing number of Blacks who are free of religious belief, which increases diversity not only within the Black community, but also thesecular community. And we welcome everyone regardless of sexuality, genderidentity, age, national origin or race.
